What is the World Masters Games?

The World Masters Games is an international event that was first held in Toronto, Canada in the year 1985 and this 2021 Kansai Games marks the 10th event.
Through individual perseverance and communal friendship, we promise to organize an event in which Japan’s national traditions and cultures as well as regional characteristics are presented to the world. We also promise to organize an event in which the concept of “lifelong sports” will show hope and endless possibilities for future generations.
In view of the 2021 event, we, Higashiosaka City, will hold a pre-match (test) event for the rugby games on October 19, 2019 at Hanazono Rugby Stadium.

INTRODUCTION

Event Visions

  1. Appealing Japanese culture as an advanced “lifelong sports” nation to the world from the Kansai region where some of our country’s most important historical events took place and cultures exist.
  2. The arrangement of a historic “lifelong sports” event through the utilization of Kansai region’s human resources full of hospitality.
  3. Development of the nation’s mentality towards sports from that of “watching” and “supporting” to “participating” through cooperation with the Rugby World Cup 2019 and 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games.
  4. Regional revitalization through a cross-jurisdictional operation method while appealing Kansai region’s identity.
  5. Promotion of regional revitalization through “sports tourism” by fusing the two.
  6. Further promotion of health and sports related industries.
  7. Making contributions to a healthy society through sports in our highly aging society.
